ICOMOS President to Give World Heritage Lecture in Chicago, 22 March 2012

GUSTAVO ARAOZ, President ICOMOS, will give a lecture entitled,“The 20th Century and other Gaps in the World Heritage List: A Unique Opportunity for the US,” in Chicago, 22 March 2012.

American participation in the UNESCO World Heritage Convention has been and remains lukewarm at best. This is especially jarring when contrasted with the enthusiastic participation of so many countries around the world. Gustavo Araoz, President of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), will provide an overview of the inner workings of the Convention and highlight the related opportunities—as well as the challenges—that exist for heritage places in the United States. This lecture is part of Chicago Modern: More than Mies series.
Cocktails at 5:30 pm, lecture from 6-7 pm.
Lightology, 215 West Chicago Avenue, Free. AIA/CES 1
