The US/ICOMOS International Exchange Program (IEP) Committee is pleased to announce eight internships for 2021! Due to COVID-19, the IEP Committee decided to put the program on hiatus in 2020. After careful consideration, we have determined that we can safely and effectively proceed this year with a few key changes. We will in 2021 offer our first-ever virtual internships to complement our in-person activities. We will start our in-person internships later in the year to allow for the vaccine to reach as many people as possible. And we will move our orientation session and closing symposium and ceremony online to avoid the need for in-person events in Washington, DC. We are thankful to our IEP Host organizations for their continued patience and flexibility as we worked on these alternatives. After many months working on the program, we are happy to share with you the list of hosts for this year:
In-person placements, starting August and September 2021:
- Art & History Museums, Maitland, Florida (USA)
- ICOMOS Georgia, Tbilisi (Georgia)
- Office of Historic Preservation, City of San Antonio, Texas (USA)
- San Antonio Missions National Historical Park / Mission Heritage Partners, San Antonio, Texas (USA)
- World Heritage Office, City of San Antonio, Texas (USA)
Virtual placements, starting June and August 2021:
- American Center of Research, Amman, Jordan
- ICOMOS Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Working Group #1 (Philippines)
- ICOMOS Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Working Group #2 (Scotland)
We are very busy now finalizing contracts with the selected interns and hosts for these placements. Watch out for next month’s newsletter (and keep an eye on our social media) for an official welcome to the 2021 IEP Interns! And the IEP Committee is already busy making plans to return the IEP to its normal schedule in 2022.
