Announcing International Day for Monuments and Sites 2023

Every year on April 18th, ICOMOS and supporters of cultural and natural heritage around the world celebrate the International Day for Monuments and Sites (IDMS), popularly known as World Heritage Day. This year’s theme is HERITAGE CHANGES.

ICOMOS Committees, members and all those wishing to celebrate the International Day for Monuments and Sites are warmly invited to showcase the myriad ways in which traditional knowledge is or can be employed to address climate change in transformative ways.

ICOMOS National Committees, International Scientific Committees, Working Groups, and Task Forces, and all those who wish to celebrate the Day, may refer to the following focus questions:

● How can cultural heritage conservation drive climate action?

● How do local and traditional knowledge systems contribute to developing viable climate adaptation measures?

● What actions are the ICOMOS National Committees, International Scientific Committees, Working Groups, and Task Forces taking in response to the increasing risks and impacts of climate change?

● How can local and traditional knowledge systems mitigate future climate change risks and impacts?

Join and celebrate the event with us! We encourage you to organize events and share your learnings via social media.

Please inform the ICOMOS International Secretariat on planned 18 April events at the latest by 20 March 2023 so that we can publish them on the ICOMOS website and share your activities among our international members.
