Susan Macdonald, Head of Buildings and Sites, Getty Conservation Institute

Susan Macdonald joined the GCI as Head of Buildings and Sites after a career in the private and public sector in the UK and Australia. Susan studied architecture at the University of Sydney, and holds a Masters in Conservation Studies (University of York/ICCROM) and is a certified architect and practicing planner. In her current and previous positions Susan has been involved in a wide range of conservation issues from archaeological site management, urban planning, development, cultural economics, policy and technical matters and has lectured and authored and edited various books and articles on these topics. She currently oversees some 20 plus projects that aim to advance conservation practice internationally through research, field projects, dissemination and capacity building activities. Susan is actively engaged in professional organizations such as ICOMOS and DOCOMOMO and sits on the editorial board of a number of professional journals. She is the copresident of ICOMOS ISC20C, has developed world heritage nominations, advised State parties and undertaken assessments and expert missions on nominations and attended the ICOMOS World Heritage Panel.
