In case you missed it, Cequyna Moore, Program Director of the Monuments Toolkit Project, was a featured panelist for Pratt Institute’s “Preservation in a Time of Precarity: Intersecting Indigenous Intelligence & Artificial Intelligence” on October 29, 2024. The purpose of the event was to take stock of the preservation field and to assess opportunities and challenges that Artificial Intelligence can present in the face of threats like conflict, climate change, and social injustice.

The Symposium convened Artificial Intelligence experts, linguists who are preserving the Seneca language, historic preservationists who are actively foregrounding the Black Experience in Historic Preservation and Architectural forensics in Palestine.

Cequyna’s presentation, “Technology, Community, and the Future of Historical and Contemporary Documentation,” discussed the use of digital media through the lens of the Monuments Toolkit Project’s podcast and webinar programs possible intersections with emerging technologies, like artificial intelligence, to reshape how we document and preserve historic monuments. Cequyna also discussed the challenges such as mitigating misinformation and the continued need for human oversight to maintain quality and integrity in the digital and artificial intelligence age.  She also discussed the upcoming Monuments Toolkit Mobile App and how it can enhance accessibility to historical information and empower underrepresented voices to contribute to collective history.

We are grateful to Pratt Institute for the opportunity to discuss the Monuments Toolkit Project. For additional information, about the symposium and other events, please click here.
