In Memoriam: Sally Sims Stokes, 1950 – 2020

We are sad to announce that longtime US/ICOMOS friend and preservation advocate Sally Sims Stokes passed away on August 13, 2020. Sally’s career and influence were wide ranging: she researched and wrote about fashion history, architectural history, domestic work history, and historic preservation. As a specialist in academic library administration, Sally for many years served as Librarian and Curator of the National Trust for Historic Preservation Library Collection at the University of Maryland and as a faculty member in Library Sciences at the Catholic University of America. It is thanks to Sally that the US/ICOMOS archives reside at the University of Maryland.

Sally, along with her husband Samuel Stokes, was a longtime supporter of the US/ICOMOS International Exchange Program (IEP). Our photo here was taken at the 2018 IEP Symposium and Reception. To read more about Sally, offer condolences to her family, and to learn about where contributions can be made in her memory, please read Sally’s obituary here: https://rappfuneral.com/tribute/details/31255/Sally-Stokes/obituary.html#tribute-start.
