The National Park Service (NPS) has shared this announcement regarding 2023 grant opportunities:
The National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program, in collaboration with the Association for the Study of African American Life and History is making $500,000 available for grants in 2023. Grants awards will range from $1000- $100,000.
Sites, programs, and facilities currently listed in the Network to Freedom are eligible to apply for grants to preserve and restore buildings associated with the Underground Railroad (UGRR) and for interpretation and historical research projects. New Network to Freedom members (sites, programs, or facilities) that are accepted from the January 15, 2023, round is eligible to apply for these funds.
This year, grants will also be awarded for researching and writing applications to list new sites in the Network to Freedom. Proposals for these grants are not restricted to current Network to Freedom members.
The special emphasis area for 2023 is student engagement. Preference will be given to projects that have a direct student engagement or education component.
Applications and all supporting documentations must be received before June 30th, 2023.
